Custom ordered mobile island bar Relm was approached by Concrete Architecture to develop a mobile bar for a residential customer. The customer wanted a concrete bench top with short waterfall ends, in a format that could be moved around (taken outside and inside). We worked closely with the both Concrete Architecture and the customer to develop a range of concepts, specifying castors, powder coat colours and details around the steel frame and oak legs. The concrete bench top had signifiant weight in it, and required a strong supportive structure to prevent bowing and potential cracking. Relm engineered and employed local steel fabricators Shack Steel to fabricate and powder coat the frame. The oak legs were cut from solid 80mm stock, carefully routed to create a 5mm shadow line detail and allowed the steel frame to be inset, finishing flush with the legs.
